Nigel Ellis, author of Introduction to Fall Protection, defines fall protection as, "the 'back-up' system planned for a worker who might lose their balance at height in order to control or eliminate injury potential."
David MacCollum, author of Construction Safety Planning, further extends that "Fall protection is needed when it is impossible to provide fall prevention."
What is Fall Prevention?
Fall prevention, as defined by David MacCollum, is, "The elimination of hazards that cause falls by building safe platforms with proper railings so that there is no cause to fall from an elevated area."
What is Fall Restraint?
Fall restraint is the restraining of an employee to keep them out of harms way by limiting a likely fall hazard to a maximum distance of two feet (2') or less.
